Da’Mar Grier, the oldest of 3 siblings, was born to a single parent home in San Francisco, California. He moved around the bay area until 2002 when he settled in Sacramento, California. He was raised with a strong church upbringing but leading into his adulthood he stepped away from his humble beginnings to pursue the things of the world. That in itself turned into a blessing as it was during that time period that his testimony was created and his love for wordplay was birthed.
In fact, his love for wordplay evolved into him becoming a member of some hip-hop and rap groups, which proved to be short-lived after rededicating his life to Christ. The decision was made to put his pen down. He never thought he would write poetry again until someone gave him an opportunity to deliver a poem for a church event. Pen in hand the words began to pour out. At that point, he was unsure of the plans that God had in store for his life. It was at this point that God transformed his writing and he is now able to edify the Body of Christ by giving his testimony through the gift of Spoken Word. The passion he finds derives from his freedom of expression and the power of Spoken Word.
Today it is easy to get caught up in tradition but what makes spoken word most appealing is that he is able to break through chains of traditional worship and minister in his most raw, vulnerable form. Ultimately, his goal is to unearth talents, liberate the minds of the youth, and show that God’s Word can be expressed through poetry.
